HHCIC works in partnership with GPs in Harrow to provide a community based Piles clinic. The service is provided for patients who are living in Harrow.

Hemorrhoids, also known as piles, are swellings containing enlarged blood vessels that are found inside or around the bottom (the rectum and anus). In many cases, hemorrhoids do not cause symptoms, and some people do not even realise they have them. However, when symptoms do occur you will need to see your GP who will refer you to see the specialist if they feel needed.

Internal haemorrhoids develop as swellings inside the back passage. You may not be able to see or feel them, and small haemorrhoids don’t usually hurt. Bleeding may be the only sign that they are there. When they become larger, internal haemorrhoids can poke outside the back passage (prolapse) – you may be able to see or feel them as moist, pink pads of skin that are pinker than the surrounding area. Prolapsed haemorrhoids may hurt as they become irritated by rubbing on clothing and sitting.
